At Official Plates, we supply both road-legal number plates in full compliance with DVLA regulations, and show plates intended strictly for off-road or decorative purposes. We are committed to upholding the law and maintaining transparency regarding how our products should be used.

1. DVLA-Registered Number Plate Supplier (RNPS)

Official Plates is a DVLA Registered Number Plate Supplier (RNPS), authorised to manufacture and supply number plates for use on UK roads.

This registration means we meet all regulatory requirements set out in the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and adhere to the current British Standard (BS AU 145e).

2. Road-Legal Plates

All plates marked and sold as “road legal”:

  • Are manufactured to the BS AU 145e standard for visibility, durability, and reflectivity;
  • Include required identifiers (supplier name, postcode, and BS number);
  • Are suitable for MOT and DVLA enforcement standards;
  • Require you to provide proof of identity and entitlement before we can legally supply them.

Required Documentation:

  • Proof of Identity (e.g. photocard driving licence, passport)
  • Proof of Entitlement (e.g. V5C logbook, V750 certificate, V778 retention document)

We cannot legally produce road-legal number plates without verifying these documents.

3. Show Plates (Non-Road Legal)

We also supply show plates, which are:

  • Intended for off-road, display, novelty, indoor, or motorsport use only;
  • Not compliant with BS AU 145e and therefore not legal for use on public roads;
  • Available with custom fonts, spacing, slogans, badges, or styling that may not meet DVLA standards.

We clearly label these products as not for road use, and it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure show plates are not displayed on any vehicle used on public roads.

4. Customer Responsibilities

By purchasing from Official Plates, you agree to:

  • Use road-legal plates only on vehicles for which you are the registered keeper;
  • Use show plates only in appropriate, non-road contexts;
  • Install and display all number plates in accordance with applicable laws and MOT requirements (for road-legal plates);
  • Not attempt to misrepresent a show plate as a legal identifier on UK roads.

We are not liable for any penalties, MOT failures, or enforcement actions arising from improper use of our products.

5. Data Protection & Privacy

We process personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Personal data collected for road-legal plates is used solely for compliance purposes and is stored securely.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Official Plates is not liable for:

  • Misuse of show plates in public or on-road settings;
  • Legal consequences arising from incorrect fitting or display of number plates;
  • Any damages or losses resulting from customer non-compliance with UK laws.

7. Jurisdiction & Governing Law

This website and all sales are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
